Ford to Pay $369M to Paralyzed Woman

The award in this case, $369 million has nothing to do with the safety of the Explorer. It has everything to do with greed, wanting to "stick it" to the rich guy and environmentalist wackos. The accident, while tragic, was not the fault of Ford.

1)

"...The Explorer meets or exceeds all Federal safety standards. There is no defect with the Explorer,' spokeswoman Kathleen Vokes said. 'The Explorer is an outstanding vehicle with a solid safety record..."

If this is true and the Explorer meets all federal regulations, then according to the law, there is nothing wrong with it. If they truely believe that the vehicle is dangerous, then fight to have the federal regulations changed so that future vehicles will be safer. The reason this was not done is they couldn't get any money from the government.

A few years ago, I had an opportunity to participate in a "mock jurry" trial. It was held by the top medical malpractice law firms here. Before going to actual trial, to get possible jurry reactions, they held a mock trial. They invited a number of people to become"jurrists". The lawyers gave their arguments before the "jurry" and then the separated the people into about 4 different jurries and videotaped their processes. The group that I was with, almost unanimously found for the patient without any discussion. They didn't care about the evidence. Most were concerned only with the emotions of the husband losing his wife and the kids living without a mother. I heard and saw the same evidence they did and there was no clear fault of the hospital or doctors. Many of the other "jurrists", after all but me and another, found the doctor and hospital responsible, wanted to award the husband $200-300 million. They actually said that they wanted to stick it to the rich guy...they had plenty of money, why shouldn't the husband and kids get some. At first, I couldn't believe it, but then I remembered that most people don't care about the truth or facts (otherwise Bill Clinton would not have been elected for a first term). They let their emotions rule the day.

And in the case with Ford, that is what happened also.

Envrionmentalsit wackos. Anytime they can get a win in their misguided crusade against the evil SUV, they happier they are. I used to work with a few and their montra, and personal profile are always the same. After 9/11 they were following the wacos chant that people who drive SUVs were putting money in the pockets of terrorists. A load of crap just like everything else the environmentalists stand for.

Because the SUV didn't get 30+ miles to gallon they were somehow helping terrorism buy spending more for gas. I pointed out the them the error in their argument. I asked them if they put gas in their car and they said yes. Then I pointed out that if the SUV owner buys gas and his money goes to the terrorists, then how is the money the spend on putting gas in their economy car get separated from the SUV owners money and go somewhere else. If the SUV owners money was going to support terrorism, then theirs was too, just not as much. They still did not want to admit ther argument was stupid and showed how ignorant they were. They were typical liberals.

Doing the right thing is not easy, otherwise more people would do it.

This is one man's opinion.
